We have recently been thanked by the Macular Society for donating £100 to them.
This charity helps people affected by macular disease – the most common cause of sight loss in the UK – and BBR’s donation will support research into new treatments and finding a cure.
BBR Optometry has an established reputation for providing the most comprehensive eye examination possible, using the very latest ophthalmic equipment. Appointments do not focus solely on the patient’s vision, they also look closely at any changes to the eye that might indicate the onset of conditions such as macular degeneration.
Cathy Yelf, Chief Executive of the Macular Society, said: “The donation will help provide services like our helpline which offers information and reassurance to more than 1,000 people each month as they struggle to cope with the shock and distress of a diagnosis with macular disease.”
Director Nick Black said: “In terms of this particular disease, there is still so much that can done on a wider scale in terms of raising awareness, signposting people to specialised care, facilitating an initial diagnosis and then managing referral and rehabilitation.
“We are pleased to have helped the Macular Society in their continuing research and support they give to people who have been diagnosed with the disease,” he added.
Details of symptoms and sources of support can be found on the Macular Society’s website.
