Optical Assistant / Front of House
Emily worked at BBR as an Optical Assistant for three years until 2011 when she went travelling for seven months. On returning from her adventures, she re-joined us as a member of the front of house team. Since then, Emily’s role has changed hugely and she is now the ‘go-to’ person for all IT issues whether it be sorting a printer jam, co-ordinating updates and repairs with equipment suppliers or developing and updating internal procedures. She’s always on the go and likes to be busy.
In her spare time, Emily enjoys spending time with her husband and step-daughter, reading and watching Game of Thrones.
Helen began working at BBR in September 2011 as a receptionist. She was already familiar with us as a contact lens wearer and now sees the running of the practice from the other side! Helen is a welcoming and friendly face when our patients arrive, and has great customer facing skills which she has gained from previous job roles. She is currently undertaking the Spectacle Maker's Clinical Assistant course.
Helen has two lively young sons who she enjoys many adventures with, including trips to Disneyworld. She also enjoys other holidays and relaxing at home.
Jane started at the practice in August 2005 after taking time out of her working career to complete an Advanced Secretarial and Business Course. Jane undertook the Clinical Assistant course in 2006, which is a role she takes great enjoyment from as it enables her to spend time with our patients. She is a very calm person, and puts patients at ease during their pre-screening tests.
When away from work Jane enjoys dancing, and regularly attends ballroom dances with her husband. Jane also spends a lot of time gardening, and going to the theatre, with a particular passion for musicals. She also enjoys watching rugby. Her favourite colour is purple, so she has definitely had an influence over the BBR uniforms!
Clinical Assistant (part time)
Laura has worked at BBR since January 2011 and went straight into the Clinical Assistant course. She enjoys being able to give our patients the best advice to help make their experience with us enjoyable and informative. Laura has been wearing contact lenses since the age of 12 and this is an area of optics she is very interested in.
In her spare time Laura enjoys walks in the country with her dog Rupert. She enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter, Violet. Laura also enjoys photography and is a big fan of Disney.
Laura is the longest standing member of BBR's reception team, having worked here for more than 15 years. Laura's knowledge of our patients is unparalleled, and her efficient approach ensures all jobs get completed.
When not at work, Laura spends most of her time with her husband and two young daughters, but she also enjoys time with friends.
Clinical Assistant (part time)
Nicki joined the practice as a member of the reception team in May 2003 and undertook the Clinical Assistant course in 2004. As one of the longest standing members of the reception team she has a huge amount of knowledge of the practice and our patients. She prides herself on delivering exceptional customer service and always has a smile on her face.
Nicki used to love long holidays in exotic countries, but since having her daughter she enjoys spending time at home with her and her husband. She also enjoys trips to the theatre and going to the gym to socialise!
Megan Eddy joined our reception team at the end of February 2015 as part of a customer service apprenticeship scheme.
Lisa Strevens, BBR's Staff Resources Manager, says "We had never taken on an apprentice before and we found it a very positive experience as we saw several very creditable young candidates. Megan's particular brand of wide eyed enthusiasm was extremely appealing and we have high hopes for her."
Megan enjoys spending time with her family and friends outside of work - she especially enjoys walking her two dogs with her Dad during the winter. She is also very interested in the First World War and enjoys visiting battle fields.
Hannah is one of our newest members of The Clinical Assistant Team who joined BBR Optometry in 2015. Hannah discovered a passion for photography as a child. She studied the subject at degree level and recently graduated with a BA Hons. As a sociable person, she specialises in portraiture, striving to create memories to achieve client satisfaction. Hannah continues to enjoy photography but was keen to pursue her interest in providing a service to help others by taking a position in patient care at BBR.
Out of work, Hannah enjoys walking, photography, camera, baking for friends and family and likes to take a trip to her family home to spend time in the countryside.
