Progressive Optometrist

BBR Optometry is a well-established independent optometry practice with a strong bias towards the clinical. We lie at the heart of Herefordshire CCG enhanced services which has possibly the widest range of funded NHS services in England. We are proud of the strong relationship forged with our exemplary local Eye Unit and have seen nine Optometrists graduate at IP level in the past 10 years. Several of our team have taken on sessions at Hereford Victoria Eye Unit, the Glaucoma unit at Gloucester Royal Infirmary and teaching sessions at University of Western England (UWE).

We now have a vacancy for a full time clinically minded Optometrist. We would rather a PAYE contract but self-employed via a legitimate service company would be acceptable.

We presently have 4 Optometrists (2 of whom are business owners): all are glaucoma higher cert and MECs accredited, 3 are IP and 2 are medical retina. Hereford has schemes in pre & post cat, CUES, MECS casualty discharge, glaucoma enhanced referral, OHT & glaucoma monitoring, children, low vision, medical retina fast track and stable antiVEGf discharge follow up. As such we would expect any joining optometrist to commit to achieving CUES and IP status if they did not have that already. Both placement and funding is available.

We fully engage in staff development and have been accredited at Gold level as Investors in People since 2001. We have a wonderful team of people supporting you. We are a training practice for Dispensing Opticians in placement and have been part of the Manchester University registerable MSci scheme Optometrists for over 24 graduates. Three recent graduates have accepted roles in Moorfields (2) and Manchester Royal Eye.

In addition to the high standard of clinical services built on a strong reputation we have superb equipment. We installed the first spectral domain OCT in an optometry practice in the UK in 2007 and the first swept-source OCT in 2015, we have over 13 years experience and over 120,000 OCT scans on file. In 2017 we took delivery of the first OPTOS California® in Europe. Consulting rooms are newly equipped with state of the art equipment including automated phoropters and digital slit lamps. We are the first practice in Europe with Topcon Cronos ® digital refraction system

We are also a busy high end dispensing practice with 5 DO’s dispensing top end Tom Davies bespoke, Feb 31st, Barton Perera, and Lindberg with Nikon and Rodenstock lenses.

We are a specialist CL practice being amongst the first to work with Coopervision MiSight and NaturalVue myopia control and a significant number of specialist fits including ortho-K, scleral and keratoconic fittings. We provide a medical contact lens service to four surrounding counties.

Private optometry services include myopia control using Topcon Myah® and a busy Tear Clinic with both Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and LipiFlow® treatments delivered on site.

If you need to take stock of your career and make a fully supported clinical commitment to the future of optometry and primary eyecare you would find a welcoming home with us is one of the most beautiful counties in England.

Please note, many Optometrists seek placement via recruitment agencies, whilst we are happy to consider this route we would prefer a direct approach, not least as the percentage fee can be reflected in your salary, joining arrangements or even training costs.
