Tour de France riders wear Bolle for ultimate protection

With the 2017 Tour De France underway, BBR Optometry is delighted to stock Bolle sunglasses as worn by riders in teams AG2R La Mondiale and Katusha-Alpecin Katusha to offer ultimate protection during the 21 stages of the race.

These sunglasses shield the rider’s eyes from bright sunlight and harmful UV rays as well as offering protection from the wind, rain, dust, grit and bugs that can impair vision.

Daniel Read, practice manager at BBR Optometry, says: “Cycling is a sport that continues to grow in popularity and I’m sure many Herefordshire residents are also being inspired by the Tour De France to get back in the saddle.

“For anyone taking up cycling again or just starting I would like to remind them of the importance of sunglasses especially if they are planning on taking any long rides during the summer months.

“Sunglasses are the best way to ensure that cyclists get the required eye protection from the environment. As well as UV protection, there’s wind, grit and rain to keep out of your eyes. On a bright day you’ve also got the visual discomfort from the glare off the road as well.

“The risk of eye damage from the sun is directly related to length and intensity of exposure - no-one knows what the critical amount of exposure is. Effects are cumulative and even short but frequent periods spent outside can cause problems.

“Cyclists competing in the Tour de France have been wearing sunglasses for a few years now and they tend to opt for a wraparound design so they offer protection from the side as well but we offer a range of styles to suit different needs,” he added.

So if you need new sunglasses to complete your cycling kit, then why not come in and see the range we stock here at BBR, available with or without prescription.
